Brian White

BRIAN WHITE

Brian is a former shipmaster with experience as a harbour and coastal pilot and as a marine surveyor.  Brian has been involved in port and maritime administration in Australia and Papua New Guinea.  He is a London-trained marine lawyer who has been in private practice in PNG since 1979 and in Australia since 1992.  Brian is admitted to practice law in most Australian states and territories as well as in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.  In addition, Brian is a notary public and a qualified arbitrator and mediator.  He is a fellow of the Nautical Institute and also honorary Consul-General for Denmark in PNG.  Email: Brian@bwamarine.com.  Mobile: +61 412 184 856



Belinda McIntosh

BELINDA MCINTOSH

Belinda McIntosh is the Senior Associate at Brian White & Associates.  She has an honours degree in psychology and graduated at the top of her class with a Bachelor of Laws in 2004 from James Cook University.  She was admitted as a lawyer in late 2004 in the ACT and Queensland.  Belinda specialises in the conduct and settlement of claims for personal injuries pursuant to the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002.  However she is also experienced in a wider range of maritime matters including prosecutions pursuant to the Transport Operations (Marine Safety) Act 1994.  Email: Belinda@bwamarine.com. Maggie-Jo McGregor

MAGGIE-JO MCGREGOR

Maggie-Jo McGregor is an employed lawyer with Brian White & Associates.  She graduated from James Cook University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science degrees.  After spending two years in Japan, Maggie-Jo returned to Australia to commence her legal traineeship with Brian White & Associates and has since been admitted as a Lawyer in both the ACT and Queensland.  She deals with a wide variety of matters such as crew medical evacuations, defence of prosecutions against crew/ owners under State and Commonwealth legislation, and claims arising from collisions, groundings and oil spills and in particular third party claims for damage to property.  Email: Maggie@bwamarine.com. Rupert Banks

RUPERT BANKS

Rupert Banks joined Brian White & Associates in 2008 as a lawyer and holds a current Queensland practising certificate.  He previously worked as a lawyer with a specialist marine law firm in Sydney.  He is admitted to practice in the ACT and the High Court of Australia.  Rupert undertakes all types of maritime work and has been involved with a large number of marine emergency response cases throughout the region.  He has also assisted with the drafting of new marine pollution prevention legislation and is fluent in Indonesian.  Email: Rupert@bwamarine.com. Royale Thompson

ROYALE THOMPSON

Royale Thompson is a qualified lawyer and consultant to the firm who practices in both Papua New Guinea and Queensland.  Royale specialises in civil litigation work and the provision of litigation advice to both local and foreign companies and to insurance organisations conducting business in Papua New Guinea.  Royale regularly appears as Counsel in both the National and Supreme Courts of Papua New Guinea.  Email: Royale@bwamarine.com




ADRIENNE CAHALAN

Adrienne Cahalan is a specialist marine lawyer with extensive experience in claims handling with a leading Sydney marine law firm.  She has been a consultant to our Cairns office since 1999.  Adrienne is currently on leave of absence whilst pursuing her other passion as a professional yachtsman.  Her recent sailing successes include navigating the 'Nicorette' to line honours in the 2001 Sydney to Hobart Yacht race, completing the EDS Atlantic Challenge on board the winning yacht 'Kingfisher', and navigating 'Cheyenne' in its successful round-the-world challenge in 2004.  Adrienne combines her two parallel careers with ease and brings a wealth of practical maritime experience to Brian White & Associates.  Email: Adrienne@bwamarine.com




MARK NORMAN

Mark is a marine consultant based in Darwin.  He was previously commercial manager and then international manager with a major shipping company based in Darwin for 14 years.  Since 2002, he has been providing marine consultancy services in north-west Australia and East Timor including the provision of specialist services to the oil, gas and mining industries and freight forwarding, freight agency and chartering services.  Prior to moving to Darwin in 1985, Mark worked for the Commonwealth Development Corporation of London in Plantation Management in Malaysia and the Solomon Islands.  Email: darwin@bwamarine.com
